Tay Street Drainage Upgrade

Cleanways worked with SEIPP Construction who replaced stormwater and foul sewer drains on both sides of Tay Street, Invercargill. The work started in late January and concluded in late October of 2018.

The $2.8 million project involved replacing brick pipes originally installed in the 1870s between the intersection of Nith and Kelvin Streets and the Queens Drive/Elles Road intersection. It also included work in Nith Street between Tay Street and the Otepuni Stream.

Pipes for the new stormwater system ranged in diameter from 300mm to 525mm were laid alongside the old brick drain, which was abandoned. The old earthenware sewerage pipes were replaced with 150mm diameter pipes.

As part of their role, Cleanways Hydro-Excavation trucks were utilised to blast around existing services, while excavating all solid debris and liquid waste. This lowered the risk of damage to any underground services.

Their water blasting truck was also used to help unblock pipes, drains, sewer and storm water lines.
